Curator Guided Tour: Chiharu Shiota with Christelle Havranek and Jason Waite

Date: 23/3 2025 4 PM

Join us for a guided tour of Chiharu Shiota’s exhibition in the Czech Republic, with curator Christelle Havranek and theorist Jason Waite. Together, we will explore her iconic spatial installations and other works that touch on themes of life, memory, and human relationships. How does Shiota work with objects, drawing, and video? And how does her work fit into the broader context of contemporary art? You will find out directly in the gallery.

Jason Waite is a curator, writer, and cultural worker. Recently, he has been working in crisis zones amidst the detritus of capitalism, seeking tools and radical ideas for different ways of communal life and work. As a curator, he has contributed to the project Don't Follow the Wind in the uninhabited and excluded zone of Fukushima, The Real Thing? at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and Maintenance Required at The Kitchen in New York. Waite recently completed his PhD in contemporary art history and theory at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford, focusing on the catastrophic consequences of internal colonization in Japan. He is editor of Art Review Oxford and co-editor of the book Don't Follow the Wind (2021), published by Sternberg Press.
